The piece “À Toa”, composed by Miguel Resende Bastos, has won the 10th International Composition Competition of Póvoa de Varzim, as part of the 39th edition of the International Music Festival of Póvoa de Varzim.

The jury of the Competition was comprised of the composers and musicians Daniel Moreira, Fernando Lapa, Jonathan Ayerst, José Luís Borges Coelho (president of the jury), and the conductor and clarinetist António Saiote, representing the interpreters. Second prize went to the piece “Voces Hominum”, from composer Gerson Batista.

Both pieces were premiered by the vocal octet Ensemble Clepsidra, and an instrumental quartet formed by Afonso Fesch (violin), João Paiva (clarinet), Filipe Quaresma (violoncello) and Miguel Borges Coelho (piano), conducted by António Saiote.

The first prize consists of €2.500, and the second €1.000, and the publishing of both scores.
